Ev.King Osiemo Watchman Report!
“The waters which thou sawest… are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” — Revelation 17:15
The recent crisis in Colombia surrounding the wetlands of Cienaga Grande de Santa Marta presents more than an environmental disaster to students of prophecy. To the watchman studying Scripture together with The Great Controversy, the event reflects spiritual conditions now spreading rapidly across the world like invasive vegetation over living waters.
The article describes a lagoon once full of life, movement, fishing, transport, and commerce, now “completely covered” by invasive growth. Fishermen cannot cast nets. Waterways are blocked. Small wooden boats struggle to cut passages through the darkness of the waters. Entire communities face displacement.
Christ used fishermen as symbols of gospel laborers:
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” — Matthew 4:19
In prophecy, waters symbolize peoples and nations (Revelation 17:15). Thus a choking lagoon becomes a powerful representation of the spiritual condition of the earth in the closing scenes of history.
The Invasive Plant — Symbol of False Doctrine and End-Time Deception
The article repeatedly emphasizes rapid, unstoppable growth:
“This is a monster in terms of growth.”
This mirrors the rapid spread of spiritual corruption foretold in Scripture.
Paul warned:
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:7
And Christ declared:
“Take heed that no man deceive you.” — Matthew 24:4
The invasive Hydrilla verticillata spreading beneath and above the water resembles hidden apostasy — doctrines working underneath society while visibly covering the surface of religion and politics.
Like the roots reaching “deep below the water,” deception today operates through:
- compromised religion,
- political alliances,
- economic dependency,
- environmental fear narratives,
- false unity movements,
- and spiritualism.
The Great Controversy states:
“Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions.”
The vegetation covering the lagoon resembles gross darkness:
“For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people.” — Isaiah 60:2
Nueva Venecia — A Symbolic Venice
The name “Nueva Venecia” (“New Venice”) is significant prophetically. Venice historically symbolized maritime trade, wealth, and religious-political influence connected with old European systems.
Revelation 18 describes Babylon as a power sitting upon many waters controlling commerce and religion.
The article says:
- people live entirely on water,
- commerce depends on boats,
- transport is blocked,
- economic life is collapsing.
This echoes Revelation 13:
“That no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark…” — Revelation 13:17
As waterways close physically in Colombia, prophetic students see a shadow of coming restrictions spiritually and economically against faithful believers.
Fishermen Unable to Work — Gospel Labor Under Restriction
One fisherman said:
“We can’t work because of this plant.”
This strongly parallels the coming crisis where faithful workers for truth will face barriers.
Amos foresaw:
“A famine… of hearing the words of the Lord.” — Amos 8:11
In the final crisis:
- ministries may lose platforms,
- censorship may increase,
- financial restrictions may rise,
- buying and selling pressures may intensify,
- truth may become marginalized.
The fishermen untangling their nets symbolize gospel workers struggling against confusion, false teachings, distractions, and worldly systems.
Wooden Boats Cutting Through the Darkness
One of the strongest prophetic symbols in the article is this:
“Groups of residents head out in wooden boats to cut narrow lifeline passages.”
This resembles the remnant church carrying truth through darkness.
No giant ships appear here. Only humble wooden boats.
This parallels:
- Noah’s ark,
- the disciples’ fishing boats,
- humble ministries,
- small faithful movements.
The “lifeline passages” represent pathways of truth being preserved amid overwhelming apostasy.
Like Nehemiah rebuilding amid rubbish:
“The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish.” — Nehemiah 4:10
So today faithful believers labor amid confusion and corruption to restore “the old paths.”
Magdalena River — Corrupted Source Waters
The article states the wetland receives polluted waters from the Magdalena River.
Spiritually this points to corrupted sources of influence:
- compromised teachings,
- polluted theology,
- worldly philosophies entering the church,
- spiritual contamination flowing from influential centers.
Jeremiah warned:
“They have hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” — Jeremiah 2:13
People are increasingly drinking contaminated waters — false doctrines and intoxicating wine of Babylon.
Revelation 17 says:
“The inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”
The 1847 and 1950s Connection
The article references:
- Nueva Venecia founded in 1847
- Buenavista emerging in the 1950s
To Adventist prophetic students, 1847 closely aligns with the early rise and organization period of the Advent movement after 1844.
Meanwhile the 1950s can symbolize increasing ecumenical compromise and institutional infiltration in Christianity during the Cold War and post-war religious realignments.
The contrast becomes symbolic:
- early purity,
- later compromise,
- growing entanglement.
Like the church of Laodicea:
rich in appearance,
yet spiritually weakened.
Mass Displacement — A Shadow of the Time of Trouble
The article warns of “mass displacement.”
Christ warned:
“Then let them which be in Judaea flee…” — Matthew 24:16
God’s people have always been pilgrims:
- Abraham left Ur,
- Israel left Egypt,
- Elijah fled apostasy,
- the Waldenses hid in mountains,
- the early church scattered.
Jesus said:
“My kingdom is not of this world.” — John 18:36
The growing instability of earth reminds believers that permanent security is not found in earthly systems.
Hebrews 11 says the faithful:
“confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”
The Common Good and Global Solutions
The article repeatedly calls for:
- stronger government intervention,
- coordinated authority,
- environmental management,
- collective solutions.
While practical help is necessary, prophecy warns that global crises often become gateways for centralized control.
Revelation describes powers uniting around a common cause while gradually restricting conscience and liberty.
Thus environmental crises, economic crises, health crises, and security crises may increasingly justify stronger global systems.
Students of prophecy therefore watch carefully while still showing compassion toward suffering humanity.
Mary Magdalene and the Fragrance of Truth
The user’s comparison of “fragrance” and “river” recalls Mary Magdalene pouring precious ointment upon Christ.
True gospel ministry still spreads fragrance amid corruption.
2 Corinthians 2:15 says:
“For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ.”
Even if waters are polluted, God still has faithful witnesses carrying the fragrance of heaven through small “boats” of truth.
Compare and Contrast
| Colombia Wetland Crisis | Prophetic Parallel |
|---|---|
| Invasive plants cover waters | False doctrines spreading globally |
| Fishermen unable to work | Gospel labor hindered |
| Wooden boats create passages | Faithful ministries preserving truth |
| Polluted river systems | Corrupted spiritual sources |
| Mass displacement fears | Time of trouble and persecution |
| Communities isolated | Remnant separated from worldliness |
| Government intervention sought | Rising centralized authority |
| Lagoon covered in darkness | Isaiah 60 gross darkness |
| Water contamination | Wine of Babylon |
| Rapid uncontrollable growth | End-time apostasy |
Final Watchman Reflection
The crisis in Colombia is not itself direct fulfillment of prophecy, but it illustrates conditions Scripture warned would characterize the last days:
- confusion,
- contamination,
- restriction,
- displacement,
- darkness,
- economic pressure,
- and desperate cries for deliverance.
Yet amid the choking waters, small wooden boats still move.
So too God still has a remnant people carrying truth through the darkness.
Isaiah’s promise remains:
“When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” — Isaiah 59:19
And Christ still calls:
“Fear not, little flock.” — Luke 12:32
The final work is not to fear the darkness, but to shine truth faithfully until Christ returns.
