“BABYLON IS FALLEN”: SYSTEMIC CORRUPTION, SPIRITUAL ADULTERY, AND THE FINAL WARNING

Reuters reported on May 1, 2026, that the Catholic Archdiocese of New York agreed to pay $800 million to settle claims involving over 1,300 sex abuse survivors, one of the largest abuse settlements in U.S. Catholic history. Cardinal Timothy Dolan acknowledged this as a shameful chapter.
This is not merely a legal matter—it reveals a prophetic issue. Scripture describes a fallen religious system:
“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.”
—Revelation 18:2
This is not speaking merely of ancient Babylon, but of an end-time apostate religious system—a union of false religion, political power, and spiritual corruption.
THE HARLOT WOMAN OF REVELATION 17

John writes:
“And I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast…”
—Revelation 17:3
In prophecy:
- a woman = church (Jeremiah 6:2; Ephesians 5:25)
- a pure woman = faithful church
- a harlot woman = apostate church
This woman is called:
“MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS”
—Revelation 17:5
The Reformers—Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, William Tyndale—identified the papal system, not individual Catholics, with this prophetic apostasy.
Luther wrote:
“I am practically cornered, and can hardly doubt any more that the pope is really the Antichrist.”
ELLEN WHITE: ROME AS A SYSTEM
Ellen G. White wrote:
“Popery is just what prophecy declared that she would be, the apostasy of the latter times.”
(The Great Controversy, ch. 35)
She clearly distinguished between:
sincere Catholics
and
Romanism as a system
She said:
“There are real Christians in the Roman Catholic communion…”
but also:
“Romanism as a system is no more in harmony with the gospel of Christ now than at any former period…”
Thus, the issue is not hatred of people, but exposure of deception.
SEXUAL ABUSE AND MORAL CORRUPTION
Christ warned:
“By their fruits ye shall know them.”

When billions are paid to settle abuse scandals across decades, it exposes a deeper disease—moral corruption protected by institutional power.
Ezekiel rebuked false shepherds:
“Woe be to the shepherds… should not the shepherds feed the flocks?”

Instead of protecting children, systems often protected reputation.
This fulfills the principle:
“She glorified herself, and lived deliciously…”
—Revelation 18:7
Outward splendor, inward corruption.

Magnificent cathedrals, ceremonies, robes, incense, political influence—but behind it, hidden abuse, silence, and compromise.

“This outward splendor… is an evidence of inward corruption.”
Truth is not measured by architecture, wealth, or ceremony.
Christ was born in a manger.
CHURCH + STATE = PERSECUTION
The final issue is not merely scandals.
It is power.
Revelation warns of church-state union.
When religion seeks state enforcement, persecution follows.
History proves it.
Sunday laws, coercion of conscience, and enforced worship are central prophetic issues.
Daniel 7:25:
“He shall think to change times and laws…”
The Sabbath issue remains central.
Rome claims Sunday as the sign of her authority.
This is why prophecy matters.

Martin Luther
“The papacy is the kingdom of Babylon and of the true Antichrist.”
John Knox
“That tyranny which the pope himself hath for so many ages exercised over the church.”
Roger Williams
warned against forced religion and church-state union.
The Protestant world today has forgotten what the Reformers risked their lives to defend.
FALSE WORSHIP AND SPIRITUALISM
Babylon is also filled with:
- tradition above Scripture
- priestly mediation replacing Christ
- prayers to saints
- image worship
- false teaching on death
- spiritualism disguised as religion
Ecclesiastes 9:5 says:
“The dead know not anything.”
Yet pagan doctrines of immortal souls and communication with the dead opened the door to modern spiritualism.
This is part of Babylon’s wine.
THE FINAL CALL
God’s message is not hatred.
It is mercy.
“Come out of her, my people…”
—Revelation 18:4
God still has people in every denomination.
The call is not to attack sincere souls—but to leave systems of error.
The final test will be:
truth vs tradition
commandments of God vs commandments of men
Christ’s righteousness vs human religion
WATCHMAN WARNING
Isaiah 58:1
“Cry aloud, spare not…”
A true watchman must warn.
Silence is betrayal.
This is not about popularity.
It is about eternity.
The same system that persecuted truth in the past will seek control again.
History will repeat.
CONCLUSION

It is prophetic evidence.
Babylon still stands.
But her judgment is coming.
