As the Archbishop of Canterbury kneels in prayer with Pope Leo XIV, prophecy students must ask: Is this Christian unity—or the healing of the deadly wound?
The Reformers fled Rome for truth.
Modern churches return for peace.
But Revelation warns that Babylon will unite the kings of the earth and intoxicate the nations with false doctrine.
The ecumenical movement appears peaceful, but prophecy reveals its dangerous end.
God’s faithful remnant must not be swept into sentimental religion.
Truth is not preserved by compromise.
Babylon is not healed by friendship.
And the everlasting gospel cannot be merged with apostasy.
The call still sounds:
“Come out of her, My people.”
This is not the hour for applause.
This is the hour for discernment.
This is not the time to sleep.
This is the midnight cry.

PROPHETIC NEWS ANALYSIS – APOSTATE CHRISTENDOM AND THE ECUMENICAL HANDSHAKE
6
On April 27, 2026, Sarah Mullally, the first female Archbishop of Canterbury, met and prayed with Pope Leo XIV during her four-day pilgrimage to Rome. Their meeting at the Vatican was described as “historic,” emphasizing Christian unity, ecumenical dialogue, and cooperation despite doctrinal differences—especially over women’s ordination and church authority. Pope Leo acknowledged progress between Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism while noting continuing divisions. Mullally praised the pope’s voice on injustice and peace.
But for students of prophecy, this is not merely a diplomatic religious visit—it is a prophetic sign.
THE PROPHETIC ISSUE: UNITY OR COMPROMISE?
The Bible warns:
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
— Amos 3:3
“And all the world wondered after the beast.”
— Revelation 13:3
“Come out of her, my people…”
— Revelation 18:4
Scripture does not condemn true Christian love, but it strongly condemns unity built on compromise of truth.
The question is not:
Should Christians love one another?
The question is:
At what cost does unity come?
When truth is sacrificed for institutional peace, prophecy identifies this as spiritual fornication.
THE GREAT CONTROVERSY — ELLEN G. WHITE’S WARNING
Ellen G. White wrote in The Great Controversy:
“The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power…”
This is one of the most solemn warnings in Adventist prophecy.
Protestantism was born by separating from Rome because of apostasy, indulgences, false worship, persecution, and papal supremacy.
Now modern Protestantism seeks reunion.
This is not reformation.
This is reversal.
PAST VS TODAY — COMPARE AND CONTRAST
THEN: THE REFORMATION
Martin Luther protested Rome because:
- salvation by works was preached
- papal authority replaced Bible authority
- tradition was elevated above Scripture
- persecution silenced dissent
- the Sabbath truth was buried
- saints and images obscured Christ
The Reformers cried:
“Sola Scriptura” — Scripture Alone
They separated to preserve truth.
TODAY: THE ECUMENICAL AGE
Modern apostate Christendom says:
- doctrine should not divide
- visible unity is more important than truth
- Rome has changed
- theological differences are secondary
- prophetic warnings are “extreme”
Now prayer meetings replace protest.
Pilgrimage replaces separation.
Handshake replaces warning.
This is exactly what prophecy foresaw.
THE FEMALE ARCHBISHOP ISSUE
The meeting also reveals another prophetic paradox.
The Anglican Communion now has a female Archbishop of Canterbury, while Rome rejects female priesthood.
Yet both systems remain united in ecumenical diplomacy.
This shows that apostasy is not merely about gender debates—it is about rejection of Bible authority itself.
One rejects truth through tradition.
Another rejects truth through modern compromise.
Both depart from the plain Word of God.
Isaiah warned:
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
— Isaiah 8:20
BLINDNESS OF MODERN CHRISTENDOM
Jesus said:
“If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”
— Matthew 15:14
Religious leaders today preach peace without repentance.
Unity without truth.
Love without obedience.
Religion without the Three Angels’ Messages.
This is Laodicean blindness.
Rich in ceremony.
Poor in discernment.
Full of diplomacy.
Empty of warning.
ROME NEVER CHANGED
Many say:
“Rome has changed.”
But prophecy says:
“I saw that the papacy would regain its lost supremacy…”
— Great Controversy
The methods may soften.
The language may become gentle.
The robes may appear holy.
But prophecy says the principles remain.
The beast does not cease to be a beast because it smiles.
FINAL WARNING TO GOD’S PEOPLE
The Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14 are Heaven’s final protest against Babylon.
They call for:
- worship of the Creator
- obedience to God’s commandments
- faith of Jesus
- separation from Babylon
- rejection of the mark of the beast
Not ecumenical compromise.
Not prophetic silence.
Not political religion.
The final crisis will not be atheism vs Christianity.
It will be false worship vs true worship.
