Student Posing Woman : Who Is a True Jew, Israelite, or Christian in the Last Days?

Ev.King Osiemo

A Biblical, Prophetic, and Adventist Perspective

In current world events, discussions surrounding religion, identity, worship, and national movements continue to intensify. Recent headlines involving support for Sabbath recognition, religious symbolism in politics, and even cases of impersonation and false identity have caused many Bible students to revisit the prophetic warnings found in Scripture and the writings of the Adventist pioneers.

A recent news report published by USA TODAY described a 28-year-old woman accused of posing as a New York high school student under a false identity. While this story is primarily a legal and social matter, many Christians see in it a broader spiritual lesson concerning deception, counterfeit identity, and outward appearance without inward reality.

The Bible repeatedly warns that the last days would be characterized by deception, false profession, and confusion between truth and error.

“Take heed that no man deceive you.” — Matthew 24:4

The central question becomes:

Who is a true Jew, Israelite, or Christian according to the Bible?

1. Israel in the Old Testament

In the Old Testament, Israel referred to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God chose Israel to preserve His law, reveal His character, and prepare the world for the coming Messiah.

“You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” — Amos 3:2

However, Scripture makes clear that physical descent alone never guaranteed favor with God.

Throughout Israel’s history, there existed two groups:

  • Those faithful to God.
  • Those who possessed outward religion but lacked obedience and true faith.

The prophets continually rebuked hypocrisy, pride, oppression, and empty worship.

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth… but their heart is far from me.” — Matthew 15:8

2. What Did Christ Teach About True Israel?

Jesus challenged the religious assumptions of His day.

Many believed that lineage from Abraham automatically secured salvation. Christ taught otherwise.

“If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” — John 8:39

Christ showed that true children of Abraham reflect Abraham’s faith and obedience.

The apostle Paul later explained:

“For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly… But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly.” — Romans 2:28-29

And again:

“They are not all Israel, which are of Israel.” — Romans 9:6

The New Testament reveals that spiritual Israel consists of those who:

  • Have faith in Christ.
  • Obey God from the heart.
  • Receive the new birth.
  • Follow the Lamb wherever He leads.

3. Spiritual Israel and the Gospel

Paul declared:

“If ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed.” — Galatians 3:29

This means that God’s people are defined spiritually, not merely ethnically.

The gospel invitation extends to:

  • Jews,
  • Gentiles,
  • all nations,
  • all tribes,
  • all peoples.

The dividing wall between nations is removed through Christ.

“For ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28

4. Two Classes in the Last Days

Bible prophecy describes two major spiritual groups existing in earth’s final crisis.

The Faithful Remnant

Revelation describes God’s faithful people as:

“Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” — Revelation 14:12

Characteristics include:

  • Obedience to God.
  • Faith in Christ.
  • Loyalty during crisis.
  • Patience and endurance.
  • Separation from worldly corruption.

The Counterfeit Religious System

Another class follows:

  • Human traditions.
  • Religious compromise.
  • Political power.
  • False worship.
  • Outward religion without inward transformation.

Scripture repeatedly warns about counterfeit spirituality.

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” — 2 Timothy 3:5

5. The Desire of Ages on True Religion

In The Desire of Ages, Ellen G. White emphasized the difference between outward profession and inward conversion.

Selected Quotations

“It is not outward compliance, but the service of love, that makes true obedience.”
— The Desire of Ages

“The greatest deception of the human mind in Christ’s day was that a mere assent to the truth constitutes righteousness.”
— The Desire of Ages

“No outward observances can take the place of simple faith and entire renunciation of self.”
— The Desire of Ages

“Many who assume the name of Christ are unsanctified in heart and life.”
— The Desire of Ages

These statements reveal that:

  • Christianity is more than a label.
  • Religious identity alone does not save.
  • God examines the heart.
  • Genuine conversion produces obedience.

6. Compare and Contrast

Outward ReligionGenuine Biblical Faith
Profession onlyTransformation
Ceremony without conversionFaith working by love
Human traditionsWord of God
Pride in lineageHumility before Christ
External appearanceCharacter and obedience
Political religionSpiritual devotion

Christ Himself said:

“By their fruits ye shall know them.” — Matthew 7:20

7. Last-Day Deception and Counterfeit Identity

The recent report concerning alleged impersonation at a New York school has caused many to reflect spiritually upon the increase of deception in society.

Prophecy warns that the final generation will witness:

  • False christs.
  • False prophets.
  • Religious confusion.
  • Identity deception.
  • Counterfeit spirituality.
  • Moral compromise.

Jesus warned:

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders.” — Matthew 24:24

The issue in the last days ultimately centers upon worship, allegiance, truth, and obedience.

8. Sabbath, Worship, and Final Loyalty

Many Adventist students of prophecy connect current religious discussions surrounding Sabbath observance, national religious movements, and political-religious alliances with themes discussed in Bible prophecy and The Great Controversy.

The Bible presents the Sabbath as:

  • A memorial of Creation.
  • A sign of God’s authority.
  • A symbol of loyalty.
  • A blessing for humanity.

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” — Exodus 20:8

Revelation presents a final conflict over worship and obedience.

The faithful remnant are described as commandment keepers who maintain the faith of Jesus amid worldwide pressure.

9. What Is a True Christian?

According to Scripture, a true Christian:

  • Is born again.
  • Loves Christ.
  • Obeys God through faith.
  • Walks in humility.
  • Bears spiritual fruit.
  • Keeps God’s commandments through grace.
  • Endures faithfully through trials.

A Christian is not merely one by name, membership, or culture.

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

10. The Final Call of Revelation

The everlasting gospel calls all humanity to:

  • Fear God.
  • Give glory to Him.
  • Worship the Creator.
  • Reject deception.
  • Follow Christ completely.

“Fear God, and give glory to him.” — Revelation 14:7

The final issue is not merely ethnicity, politics, or appearance.

The final issue is loyalty to Christ.

WHO IS A TRUE ISRAELITE?

Current events continue to reveal a world struggling with identity, truth, deception, and spiritual confusion. Bible prophecy warned that in the last days many would possess outward religion while lacking inward conversion.

The Scriptures teach that a true Jew is not merely one outwardly, but one inwardly whose heart is transformed by God. Spiritual Israel consists of those who follow Christ in faith and obedience.

Revelation describes two groups in the closing conflict:

  • Those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
  • Those who follow human traditions and worldly systems.

Christ calls His people to discernment, holiness, and faithfulness during these solemn times.

The invitation of Heaven remains open:

“Come out of her, my people.” — Revelation 18:4

“What religion do I claim?”

But rather:

“Do I truly belong to Christ?”

In the last days, Scripture points to a faithful people who:

  • Love God.
  • Keep His commandments.
  • Follow Jesus fully.
