In the book of Exodus, God sent swarms of flies upon Egypt as a judgment against rebellion, pride, and stubborn resistance to divine truth. These were not ordinary flies, but large and venomous agents of divine visitation. Their sting brought pain upon man and beast, while the land of Goshen, where God’s people dwelt, was preserved.
This reveals a prophetic pattern repeated throughout history and especially in these last days as described in The Great Controversy by Ellen G. White.
PROPHETIC LESSON OF THE FLIES
Flies in Scripture symbolize corruption, uncleanness, decay, and spiritual infestation.

Just as dead flies cause ointment to stink (Ecclesiastes 10:1), so small tolerated sins corrupt churches, nations, and souls. Egypt’s plague was not random—it was heaven’s judgment upon persistent rejection of truth.
Pharaoh asked:
“Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice?”
This same spirit is seen today in governments, religious systems, and worldly powers that reject God’s commandments while exalting human authority above divine law.
GREAT CONTROVERSY CONNECTION
In The Great Controversy, Satan appears as a benefactor while bringing destruction underneath. He disguises judgment with pleasure, rebellion with freedom, and apostasy with progress.
Ancient Egypt represents spiritual Babylon.
- Egypt oppressed God’s people
- Rome persecuted the saints
- Papal systems altered divine law
- Modern America follows the image of the beast
As Pharaoh hardened his heart after every plague, so modern nations reject warning after warning—pandemics, disasters, strange diseases, economic collapse, moral decay, and social unrest.
The flies were only the beginning.
Next came:
- murrain on cattle
- boils on flesh
- hail mingled with fire
- thunder and lightning
These show progressive judgments when mercy is rejected.

THE FINAL ISSUE
The issue was never merely flies.
It was worship.
It was obedience.
It was authority.
Who rules—the Creator or man?
In Revelation, the final conflict is again over worship and obedience. Those who reject God’s seal receive judgments like Egypt received plagues.
But God still separates His people.
Just as Goshen had no flies, the faithful remnant shall be preserved spiritually amid the judgments.
WATCHMAN WARNING
Today the world is filled with “flies”:
- false doctrines
- corruption in leadership
- spiritual compromise
- moral decay
- unclean influences
- deceptive miracles
Many laugh at warning messages like Pharaoh did.
But soon laughter turns to terror.
When Pharaoh said, “I have sinned,” it was already late.
Let us repent before the hail falls.
Let us flee spiritual Egypt.
Let us stand with the Lamb before probation closes.
CLOSING APPEAL
The flies of Egypt preach to our generation:
Do not harden your heart.
The God of Moses still rules heaven and earth.
Thunder still obeys His voice.
Fire still answers His command.
Mercy still pleads.
But judgment is near.
